To Our Y Community:
Each year, we are very excited to offer your children an unforgettable, positive camp experience. Our planning starts as soon as camp ends, and continues until the day we open. With the onset of COVID 19, our planning quickly turned to research, education and collaboration, working closely with the Massachusetts State Alliance of YMCA’s, the American Camp Association, the CDC as well as both our state and local departments of public health. We are fortunate to have professional partners and advisors to help guide our way.
Last week, the State of Massachusetts released a very extensive list of protocols and requirements which all camps must have in place in order to open. We appreciate the hard work needed to create these guidelines to keep our community safe. After careful consideration of our capacity to implement these guidelines, and in conjunction with our camp directors, staff, healthcare consultants and board of directors, have decided to proceed with offering summer camp opportunities at our YMCA facility in Northampton. These camps include Camp Prospect, Gymnastics Camp and Camp Koala.
Due to what would now be needed to meet the state mandated requirements, we sadly will not be able to offer Camp Norwich this year.
Given the timing of receiving the requirements, and the additional planning and training needed to comply, the first week of Camp will be July 6, 2020. We realize that there are families who have registered for the 2 weeks before 7/6, please see the attached communication for more information regarding refunds or transfer.
Our summer camps at the YMCA will necessitate a close collaboration with our local Board of Health, Healthcare Consultants, camp families and staff to ensure the safety of our community. All registered camp families will receive additional communication to further outline the summer camp experience and expectations. There is also still limited space for new enrollments. For more information about camp registration, please email Kim Allore at email@example.com.
With the extensive preparations needed due to COVID-19, we are assessing our capacity to open the Camp Norwich location for any activities this summer. If we are able to open, we will post on our website and social media pages. Thank you for your support during this challenging time.
The Hampshire Regional YMCA is committed to providing our community with a safe and fun camp experience!
