Swim Lessons

We’ve made our swim lessons more convenient for your busy schedule!

Choose the time that works best for you and your children and we’ll place them in a class according to their ability levels. Blowing bubbles, floating, kicking, arm/leg patterns for strokes, rotary breathing, diving safety skills, stroke technique, and swimming independence are all a part of the fun. We offer all of the traditional YMCA swim lesson levels and skills.

Preschool Aquatics

Lessons are 30 minutes in length and will meet once per week. We maintain a one-to-six staff to swimmer ratio.

Shrimp, Kipper, Inia & Perch: 6-36 months and parent

This class is a great way to get an early start on acclimating young children to the water. We focus on creating a special, fun time for parents and children to interact through water games, songs, and basic movements. Children will not learn how to swim, but will learn to have fun in the water. Children must wear swim diapers under their swim suits. (30 minute class)

Pike & Parent: 24 months-3 years (beginners) & Parent

This class is for children that have graduated out of the Parent/Child class and are not yet ready to swim on their own without a parent. The parent must be in the water with the child. The goal for this class is to wean the child away from the parent in the water. Exploration, blowing bubbles, floating, and basic skills will be covered. Once completed graduation into a Pike class will be recommended. Children must wear swim diapers under their bathing suits. (30 minute class)

Pike

This class is for beginners with little experience in the water. Children may be uncomfortable swimming or moving through the water independently. Children will work on water adjustment and basic skills including blowing bubbles, the front and back float with support, and paddling on their front and back. Aqua joggers will be used. (30 minute class)

Eel

Completion of the Pike level is recommended. This class is for children who are comfortable in the water. Children will continue to develop skills learned at the Pike level, putting their faces in the water, floating, jumping in, and paddling without support. Aqua joggers and noodles will be used. (30 minute class)

Ray

Completion of the Eel level is recommended. This class is for swimmers who are moving through the water independently, and are ready to develop front and back crawl strokes, and be introduced to sidestroke and breast stroke. Rhythmic breathing, kneeling dives and somersaults are introduced. (30 minute class)

Starfish

Completion of the Ray level is recommended. This class is for swimmers who know the five basic strokes, and who are ready to continue to develop those strokes. Class is held in the deep end and swimmers must be able to swim a full length of the pool. (30 minute class)
