2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin of Parker, Texas, was named the International Gymnastics Federation’s Athlete of the Year, which was announced at the recent 77th FIG Congress in Helsinki, Finland.
At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Liukin won a total of five medals, the most by any female gymnast in 2008, to tie the U.S. gymnastics record for most medals in one Olympics, currently held by Mary Lou Retton (1984) and Shannon Miller (1992). Liukin’s medals are: gold – all-around; silver – team, balance beam and uneven bars; and bronze – floor exercise. Liukin is just the third U.S. woman to win the Olympic all-around crown. Earlier in 2008, Liukin won the all-around title at both the Tyson American Cup and the Pacific Rim Championships presented by Gillette Venus.

A Face in the Gym — Featuring Hannah Ellis

THANK YOU!  To those who supported the HRYMCA Gymnastics Team by making purchases from our Yankee Candle Fundrasier.  Also, to all gymnastics team families that participated in our Yankee Candle Fundrasier.  Congratulations Team, we made over $1,200 which we will put towards some great items from the team's wishlist!

Attention Gymnastics Families:  We have gently used leotards for sale.  $15 for child sizes and $20 for adult sizes.  We also do a leotard exchange, bring in your old leotards that do not fit anymore and exchange it for a larger size.  Leotards are available during office hours in the Youth Programs office.  See Marion for details.

Levels of Team
Our Gymnastics Team offers great opportunities to excel in an exciting and dynamic sport in a safe, enthusiastic, and motivating environment. Gymnasts are introduced to competition when it is appropriate for them physically and mentally.

Level 3 – This is the introductory level of our gymnastics team. These gymnasts learn the routines, and are a part of all events. For athletes on the Travel Team, this is the first year of competition and is always organized by age groups to ensure success for all.

Level 4 and up – The upper levels of gymnastics team (4 - 8) are learning and competing at a higher skill level. They also travel to competitions outside our Western Area League.

Home Team: This year we have decided to add a new section to our team. The Home Team learns the same skills and routines as the Travel Team, however by the gymnast’s or the coach’s decision they do not compete. Home Team athletes still participate in all other team activities. Any level may opt to be part of the Home Team. This will create a space for those athletes who need to focus on skill development without the pressure of competition. The practice schedule will be the same as the regular team, so the cost is the same as a travel team gymnast.
