Our Y impact stories

Share Your Y Story
How has the Dance for Parkinson’s class helped you?

“It’s really good for movement, balance, coordination, and just mind/body connection. And there’s another aspect too, which is that it is a social thing…people come and share the time, interest in the class, and that’s something I look forward to.”

“For both of us, the Y is a crucial part of our day, and of our thriving as the years advance. We have met new friends and made for daily connections and ongoing conversations. We started sharing a small pool lane during Covid, and now, sharing a swim and a lane is a highlight of just being together. Staying connected and healthy. For us there’s no place but the Y.”

“The Y is a wonderful institution. It is so positive and friendly; the staff are outstanding. I depend on your pool and AOA classes to keep me in good health.”

David EntinHRYMCA Member and Donor

“I had two pregnancies (twenty months apart) and both had complications. The first with sepsis and postpartum pre-eclampsia. The second with gestational hypertension, luckily that did not progress to preeclampsia. I was dealing with INTENSE postpartum depression and anxiety and trying to understand how to be a new mom and still have my own identity. The YMCA helped me immensely, not only physically, but more importantly mentally and emotionally. The YMCA classes got me out of my postpartum depression and anxiety and I will forever be grateful! My kids are 4 and 6 now and we all love going to the YMCA. They love the child watch and summer camps. I love the strength, step and spin classes. Thank you, YMCA!”

Leanne KiddHRYMCA Member

“I have seen not only myself increase in my physical strength, balance, and endurance, but I have witness others gain mobility and stability, and strength. I have seen folks start the series of exercises and can barely move and lift two-pound weights, but a year later they are able to increase their output, participation, endurance and strength, and balance. It's wonderful. I hope more folks, who work at the Y, see the importance of lending out their knowledge and skills to those who's lives are truly enriched by their dedication, patience, and knowledge. I'm so thankful for the folks who come to the center and help us old folks live richer lives!!!”
