Drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1 to 4 years old, and the second leading cause of death for children from 5 to 14 years old. 60% of kids who drown are within 10 feet of safety, while 88% of children who drown do so under adult supervision. Research shows that participation in formal water safety and swim lessons can help reduce drowning risk.
Safety Around Water is a program designed to reach children at risk of drowning and teach basic water safety skills. Please join us for a free preview into our YMCA swim lesson program. Preschool participants must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
