On Tuesday, Governor Baker extended the state mandated closure of non-essential businesses to May 18. At this time, we are planning on opening our Y as soon as possible and still plan to hold summer camp programming. However, each day, the information shared across the country is changing, sometimes by the hour. Our YMCA will make decisions based on the most reliable information we have in an effort to help keep our community safe. We will work with our local officials to follow recommendations set by the Massachusetts Department of Health and the CDC.
During this crisis we are working diligently to serve you, offering over 50 virtual programs a week for all ages. We are offering programming to the senior center and the community at large through Northampton Open Media. Our staff are volunteering in a variety of ways, while also developing our operational plans for a safe reopening.
With the top three COVID-19 co-morbidities being obesity, heart disease and diabetes, wellness prevention and intervention is vitally important to our health. Today more than ever, the actions you take towards a healthy lifestyle matter. The YMCA is here to help you, now and in the future. We anticipate an increase in requests for financial assistance in the upcoming year, and will rely on the support of our members and community to help meet that need.
With this extended closure of our Y due to COVID-19, we are very grateful for the support of our members. Please stay with us! Your membership and contributions make a huge difference in the health of our community. With 200 staff and 7000 members, we are your community center.
Should you choose to keep your membership active, please know how deeply grateful we are for your generosity. No action is needed if you continue to support our YMCA family. If you would like to identify your dues during this closure as a donation, we can provide you with a tax receipt upon request.
We also understand that you may not be able to continue your membership and we are here to help you. If you wish to make a change in your status, please email Nicole Seligman at Nicole.email@example.com. We can put your membership on hold, terminate or process a refund if needed.
Your YMCA membership has always been about more than access to a building; it’s about making connections, building relationships and contributing to a stronger community. We rely on that collective solidarity now more than ever. There’s a bright future ahead, and we will all get there, together.
