The Hampshire Regional YMCA is seeking a responsible, outgoing addition to our Membership Team! The Building Engagement Specialist role is new for our Y and we are excited to be growing our team. Our YMCA serves people of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds, and this role will be essential in making sure that everyone in the building feels safe, welcome, and supported. The ideal candidate has a background in youth engagement, enjoys forming connections with people, and is passionate about building community. The work schedule would be primarily from 4-9pm on weekdays, with potential to work weekends as the position develops, and not every weeknight is required.

Job Duties:

• Conduct regular walkthroughs through all areas of the facility while maintaining a consistent and approachable presence
• Proactively engage members in all areas of the building and work on building rapport
• Address inappropriate behavior in the building immediately in a direct and respectful manner
• Communicate with leadership staff regarding new or recurring issues with member/participant behavior, as well as assist with follow-up if incidents occur
• Ensure that age policies are being followed for the different areas of our Y
• Build skills in conflict de-escalation as well as youth behavior management
• Assist front desk staff with member services, registrations, and check-ins as needed during shifts
• Learn foundational information about all YMCA programs and services so as to be a resource for member questions, concerns and feedback

Qualifications:

• Must be available on weekday afternoon/evenings
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Prior experience in education or youth/teen care required
• Some conflict resolution skills in a customer service environment is preferred
• Excellent problem-solving skills and independent judgment

$17 per hour
